We had such a fun week last week making apple crisp and then doing our apple tasting on Thursday. I will try to upload the photos I took of our graph so you can see the results. The Honey crisp were a definite favourite! Thank you to Stephannie for volunteering to help make our apple crisps. It was great to have an extra set of hands and eyes in the room and the kids loved the process. Hopefully they shared a little bite with you!
We got to meet up with our big buddy class before Thanksgiving (they helped us cut out the turkeys for our hats) but since they were too busy to come back to help finish, we got to do it all by ourselves. They turned out great! Our buddy class is in Grade 4 and we see them every Friday for approximately 45 minutes. Last week they got to play on the playground with their buddies and had a blast! Next week we'll get together for a Halloween craft. Sometimes they help us with reading, and sometimes we do art or crafts, play, or practise speaking in French. Some of our big buddies were in my kindergarten class a few years ago and always talk about how it is such a memorable experience for them.
A reminder that Parent Teacher conferences are this week. Thank you all for signing up! I can't wait to sit down with you and chat about your child's progress thus far. As it is Parent-Teacher, students will not be a part of this meeting. We will have a student-led conference in March where they get to show you around the room and explain some of their learning to you. If childcare is an issue, they are welcome to hang out in the hallway and colour or play with lego, with the hopes that we can have 15 minutes of uninterrupted discussion. Thanks for your help!!
We have been working hard on our colours these past few weeks and students should recognize the colours in French now. On Friday, I sent home a little booklet that students had completed in class. They should be able to say the names of the colour in French when you point to a page. If this is still a struggle, feel free to keep practicing at home as well. We have a few more activities that we will be working on in class as well.
The school book fair is happening this week (Tuesday to Thursday) and you are welcome to come in and have a look around. Although they will have the chance to do some shopping during our regular library time on Thursday, I don't recommend sending money with your child (unless you are ok with they coming home with 5 erasers and a poster, but no books) ;) The book fair is open during conferences and before school if you would like to take your child around to purchase something.
We will be having a little class Halloween party on the 31st. I usually do a potluck type style lunch (pizza, veggies, fruit, chips, treats) and have parents bring in items to share with the option for a few families to contribute $5 for pizza. There will be a sign up at our door later this week. If you are able to come and help with some crafts and activities that day, there is also space for a few volunteers. Costumes are optional, but they need to be something that your child can handle wearing for most of the day and can take on and off themselves for the bathroom. ;)
If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message
Have a great week!
